Description: The Social Skills Curriculum is taught as a course of study in the daily schedule and curriculum. Its purpose is to provide students with awareness and practice in appropriate coping and interaction skills. At the elementary level (Social Skills and Me), students study the areas of Communication, Assertiveness, Responsibility, and Problem-solving. At the junior high/middle school levels (Success with Social Skills), students study the additional area of Pre-Employability social skills. At the high school level (Interacting in Your World), students study the basic four areas plus the area of Employability social skills.

The curriculum training is available in  2 – day or 3 – day formats, dependent on the contracting system's needs. These formats include the following:

    • 2 – Day Training Format: this training session is for all (or any one) of the Curriculum series, involving participants in mini-lectures, demonstrations, role plays and "mini-teaching" situations. The focus of the training is to give participants "hands-on" experience with the curriculum materials, effective methods and techniques to teach students coping skills, social skills and a goal setting process for school, community and work settings. Emphasis in the training is given to developing effective teaching skills using nonverbal and verbal communication, designing and leading effective discussions, redirecting inappropriate behaviors, facilitating student decision- making and modeling effective social and coping skills for all settings.

    • 3 – Day Training Format: this training session includes the information in the 2 -day format plus a day of Trainers Training to enable school systems to have on-site trainers in the materials for new teachers and for annual training purposes. Trainers training provides workshop scripts masters for transparencies and handouts and information on becoming an effective communicator/presenter. Trainers are designated by the contracting school system and must meet the Trainer Criteria attached to this information.

Social Skills Series Materials Price List: Materials are not included in the workshop fee and must be purchased separately. Curriculum and workbook costs will be made available when revisions are completed.
